About CWIS

Athena Infonomics is an impact solutions group that applies social science research, data analytics, and technology to advance global development. Our team of planners, engineers, social scientists, and data scientists work extensively with public-sector organizations, development financing institutions, and private-sector service providers to unpack and explain market failures, strengthen policies and regulations, build practical and robust data systems for planning and service delivery, and develop effective monitoring and learning strategies. Visit www.athenainfonomics.com to know more about our impact.

We have developed a bouquet of tools to help policy makers and practitioners make informed decisions about water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) based on data and evidence. With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Athena Infonomics developed the City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) indicator framework which helps cities track the performance of their sanitation service systems. For more information about measuring CWIS and to see examples of CWIS practice from around the world, visit www.cwiscities.com.

Under CWIS Insights services Athena Infonomics assists those interested in measuring their own CWIS projects, programs and progress, by

  • arrow Collating data and visualizing progress towards equitable, safe and sustainable outcomes and tracking system reforms around institutional mandates, accountability structures and resource planning in a cost and time-effective manner;
  • arrow Developing strategic service delivery plans for inclusive and sustainable sanitation delivery;
  • arrow Monitoring the impact of interventions on services and systems;
  • arrow Strengthening the capacity of the public sector and development actors to collect and use data to advance sanitation service goals.
